Where do you take pictures during the November-March months in Utah when all the trees are dead and everything is brown outside? Here are my go to spots when everyone is longing for leaves on trees, and barefoot family pictures. Snow is beautiful but mild winters can prove challenging for interesting photography spots this time of year. Below I have my top Fourteen spots for beautiful mild winter spots in Utah Valley.
#1 Maple Mountain View Field
This has been one of my favorite spots to shoot at this winter. It is near the restore building, and the snow capped mountains with this unused field gives vibrant blues and yellows.
#2 White out by the SF Golf course
They brought thier own little bench to give an added "Pop" of color. Looks best when it has snowed.
#3 Utah Lake between the Spanish fork and Springville exits.
These reeds and weeds with the water views look amazing, and beauty is sure to be had by family pictures, engagements and even bridals.
#4Red Rocks up Spanish Fork Canyon
I need to check and make sure that this road is open during the winter, but in my mind, it would look beautiful in the winter. It is half an hour up Diamond Fork Canyon, so a $20 fee does apply.
#5 Pioneer House in Spanish Fork by Barry's
This spot is only used because I have permission from the family that owns it. It has a lot of variety with cute little cabins, old rustic farm equipment and a darling barn. It is located right next door to Barry's Park View.
#6 The Leland Mill!
This spot can only be used if you get permission from the owner (It helps that the owner married into our family). There are so many fun brick walls and rustic things around the mill. It is an actual working mills so know you will probably be stepping in animal feed. The fun trucks move around and sometimes are there, sometimes they aren't.
#7 Spanish Fork Old Highway.
This wall is my favorite shade of blue, and with the fun old car Junkyard pieces it makes any shoot look super cute!
#8 Provo Main Street Walls
I love these fun old walls, stair wells and graffiti. Provo is always growing and changing so The same walls might not always be there.
#9 Provo Castle at the State Mental Hospital
This spot is so much fun! Cool cobble stone castle, and beautiful amphitheater. They do charge $20 to use this spot. Don't try and pull a fast one and shoot here without a permit, because police and security DO patrol the area and every time we have shot here they have asked to see our permit.
#10 State Capitol Building
Love that you can shoot indoor and outdoor here. You do need to look at the calendar to make sure you can shoot on the steps inside. There is a $40 travel fee to shoot at this spot.
#11 American Fork Amletheater.
There is a $25 dollar Travel fee for us to shoot at this location. It is pretty awesome that it is able to accommodate a huge group like the one shown below.
#12 Provo Library
Shhhh, it is in a library. I love the beautiful atrium inside that lets in lots of natural light, as well as the cool old building you can take pictures of outside. It is a great spot if you need a back up plan for inclement weather.
#13 Provo Riverwoods
You do need a photo press pass to shoot here, and you sign a paper saying you won't interfere with shoppers. I love all the fun benches and various colored walls and the new addition of the fu VW bus. $15 travel fee does apply.
#14 Crying Rock by the Spanish Fork Golf Course
Don't let these pretty girls in heals deceive you. This is a 15 minute walk and then a strategic steep climb down to the crying rocks (other shoes should be worn while making the hike down. This spot is great for groups of 3 or less, but because of the narrow shoreline anymore then 3 becomes hard to position.
#15 California or Hawaii
If anyone wants to fly us out to Hawaii or California we'd totally be willing to come take beach pictures.....and get a trip to Hawaii or California. I'm kind of kidding on this one, but mostly not kidding.
Tiana Argyle has been called to the Arkansas Bentonville Mission! That is the same mission as Trent's (the name has been changed). We are so excited for her, and think she is going to make the awesomest missionary. Her fun outgoing personality and ability to goal set and achieve will take her far. Look out Arkansas!
A Sister twirling in a field by pretty mountains, does this just scream "Sound of Music" to anyone else?
I love to do Cake Smashes!! Watching a one year old make the biggest mess possible and enjoy as much sugar as possible would have to be one of my favorite things ever! Enjoy Brooklyn's adorable cake smash! She doesn't disappoint.
What's the catch? You've never just said here's a cake make the biggest mess you possibly can!
Clean up after the smash!
I sure enjoyed this little happy girls 6 month photo session! Isn't she just the cutest! I love all her cute little expressions.
The historic beautiful provo library was the perfect spot to shoot this December! We weren't sure what the weather would be, so it is ideal for both indoor and outdoor shooting. The atrium lets in a lot of natural light. We have had such a warm December that we were even able to shoot a few shots outside. This was thier first family photo in over 6 years with everyone altogether. I love it when families are all able to get together at Christmas time. Don't they look great.
I've decided that everyone needs to bring grandma to their photo shoots! Especially if they are as cool as Vicki!! We got more smiles and everyone looking at the camera, thanks to her awesome monkey puppet work standing behind me!! Plus she watched the kiddos while I took pictures of just brooke and Trevor.
